A Buckfast queen bee comes from a hybrid, selectively bred line known for traits like strong spring buildup, excellent honey production, low swarming, and good winter survival, making them popular for diverse climates, though their temperament can vary from docile to more defensive depending on the specific genetic line, requiring careful management.

An Italian queen bee is known for her prolific egg-laying, producing large, strong colonies that are excellent honey producers, with desirable traits like a gentle temperament, strong foraging, and good comb building, though they use significant winter stores and have high spring buildup, sometimes leading to swarming.

A Carniolan Queen Bee leads colonies known for their gentle temperament, excellent honey production, and superior winter hardiness, characterized by dark grey/black bodies with lighter stripes, rapid spring population growth, and strong foraging.
